Paint Warriors - Weekly Challenge #1 - Completed

Welcome to Paint Warriors, where I set a random color palette challenge every week to see where we end up.

The rules are simple:

1. Never forget that this is for fun, to paint models in my collection that I've neglected, and not to be taken so seriously that it induces stress.

2. The palettes are made up of five paints. Only those paints or a similar hue may be used. They can be mixed or watered down.

This week's palette reminds me of spring with how it leans on warmer colors.

When I first saw this challenge, I saw the greens and the yellow and wondered if I could do a non-metallic metal with those three colors. Warning, I do not have much experience with NMM, but the weekly challenge is about trying new things and growing as an artist, so I continued with the project.

I started off by base coating the model with the closest shade I had to Dawnstone, which was Death Guard Green, then started blending up to Orruk Flesh. Something that practicing for these challenges has taught me is that mixing paint is an invaluable skill in mini-painting.

Afterwards, I started building up to the yellow; for this project I had to replace the Phalanx Yellow with Flash Gitz Yellow. For the leathers, shoulder, shield, banner, and spear I used Genestealer Purple instead of Dechala Lilac.

I finished by edge highlighting with Flash Gitz Yellow and Emperor's Children while finishing the rim with Orruk Flesh.

This was a super fun challenge, and I learned a lot about how metallics reflect light and how to build decent shadows.

Stay tuned for the next palette challenge!
